Colorado Springs Teen Agrees To Plea Deal In Brother's Death

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A Colorado Springs teenager has agreed to a plea agreement to avoid another trial on charges he murdered his brother.

Ulysses Gudino, 9, was shot and killed at his home in May 2009. In March, a jury convicted his brother, Daniel Gudino, 15, of trying to kill their mother. But they were deadlocked on the first degree murder charges for Ulysses' death.

Daniel pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide on Wednesday. He was sentenced to the Department of Youth Corrections.

"They are very glad for the opportuntiy to get the treatment he needs and for them to get the healing they need to do," said Gudino family friend Daphne Burlingame.

In a statement read in court, the Gudino family said they support Daniel and attribute everything that happened to a mental illness he suffers from.
