Colorado Springs Police Arrest Sexual Assault Suspect
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Colorado Springs police have arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on June 19.
According to police, officers responded to the Hillside Community Center located at 925 South Institute Street at approximately 2 p.m. on a report of a sexual assault.
"While officers remained collecting evidence at the scene of the crime, our Adult Sexual Assault investigators met with the victim at the hospital. She was visibly traumatized and bleeding," police said in a statement. "She stated that she was attacked and sexually assaulted by an unknown male in a nearby dry creek bed."
The victim told police she was walking in the area when a man asked her for a cigarette lighter.
"She said shortly thereafter she was grabbed from behind and dragged into a creek area where she was attacked and unable to free herself from the assault," police said.
The victim was able to provide a good description and police quickly identified a suspect. Police obtained an arrest warrant and took Mark Terry Garcia, 46, into custody on June 21.
