Colorado Springs Mom Sentenced In Child Abuse Case

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado Springs mother who pleaded guilty to child abuse causing serious bodily injury has been sentenced to 24 years in prison, minus time already served.

Samantha Salaz also was told Friday that she must serve five years of probation after her release.

Prosecutors had filed charges against Salaz and her aunt Mary Horsley after investigators said it appeared Salaz's young daughter had been put in a cold shower with black electrical tape over her eyes and mouth as a punishment. Investigators say the girl suffered brain damage.

Salaz pleaded guilty to child abuse in August and agreed to testify against Horsley, who is due to go to trial in November on charges of attempted first-degree murder and felony child abuse.
