Suspect In Bomb Threat At College Believed To Be An Active Student
LEADVILLE, Colo. (CBS4) - Colorado Mountain College in Leadville was placed on lockout Monday morning due to a bomb threat. One person authorities believe is an active student at the school was arrested in connection with the investigation.
Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff's Office were called to assist with the evacuation of the campus.
The campus "has been cleared of any bomb threats," according to a Lake County Office of Emergency Management post on Facebook Monday evening.
"I just can't believe something like this is happening in our small town," said parent Dawn Vasquez.
A backpack was located at the library on campus. The regional explosive squad from El Paso County was called in to help with the investigation. That squad will bring specialized equipment not available to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
All classrooms and office buildings on the Leadville campus were evacuated Monday morning starting at 9:40 a.m. The students who live on campus were taken to a safe area.
All schools in Lake County were placed on lockout a short time later.

The suspect has not retracted the claim of the explosive device. It is unclear whether that person is cooperating with authorities.
"I just want to find my kids make sure they're okay," said Vasquez.
Those who are not on the Colorado Mountain College Leadville campus are urged to stay away until the lockout is lifted.
The suspect has not been identified.
