Colorado GOP Making Formal Presidential Position
DENVER (AP) — The long GOP presidential contest appears to be at its end, with Mitt Romney a lock for the nomination.
But look no further than the swing state of Colorado to see deep divisions among party faithful about the top race in the land.
Rick Santorum won Colorado's nonbinding precinct caucuses in February. He left the race last week, freeing Colorado's delegates to choose Romney. Instead, many of the 800 or so candidates for Colorado's 33 slots at the Republican National Convention choose Santorum, Ron Paul or the option of remaining unpledged.
As the GOP met Saturday to make its final delegate slate to the RNC, party leaders preached unity but the membership remained divided on whether Romney's the best candidate.
