Colorado Company Gives Gifts To New Moms For Mother's Day
DENVER (CBS4) - This Mother's Day new mom's in need are getting special attention and help from two local companies. One company provides in home care and the other supports while nursing.
Katie Walsh celebrated Mother's Day as a first time mom to 2-week-old Oliver. She's getting used to the new sleep schedule and is staying on top of feedings with added help from her new Boppy pillow.
"It's a breastfeeding support pillow basically. It goes around your waist or your side here and helps support while you're breastfeeding basically," Walsh said. "It helps with your back a lot."
Walsh is one of many first-time moms in the Denver metro area that got the pillow free from Nurse Family Partnership. Together with The Boppy Company new moms are given the new gift just in time for Mother's Day.
"They're thrilled. I mean it's really nice to be able to offer this gift to them. They are really excited," Kimberly Hirst with the Nurse Family Partnership said.
"We support moms as well, so it was a great opportunity for us to provide a little additional support for those moms in need," Meg Heitlinger with The Boppy Company said.
Nurse Family Partnership helps first-time moms by making house calls. It's a little extra care for low income mothers during their pregnancy until their child is 2 years old.
"I've had a lot of questions and concerns and natural anxieties with becoming a new mom," Walsh said.
For Walsh the benefits of the program have been priceless. Meeting with a nurse from the comfort of her own home, despite her income, has helped ease her into this new phase in life.
"Kind of calmed my nerves about it and made me more confident. I guess to go into the whole process and be a new mom," Walsh said.
