Castle Rock Standoff Ends After 7 Hours

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - Four people were taken to jail after a standoff in Castle Rock that began on Saturday and lasted more than 7 hours. It ended with several explosions, but no one was hurt.

The standoff took place at the Quality Inn on Clark Street. It started when Steven Qualley, who was reportedly armed with a gun, refused to come out and surrender to police.

At least a dozen guests had to be evacuated along with employees.

About 5 hours after it began a man and woman were led out in handcuffs.

After getting a search warrant police used explosive devices to blow down the door and arrest Qualley.

"They breached the door. They did not use tear gas. They blew the door off, threw in some flash bangs. He was hiding behind a dresser. They had to go in and actually drag him out. He was not armed at the time we took him out of the room," Castle Rock Police Chief Tony Lane said.

Police were brought to the hotel on a report that connected Qualley to a stolen vehicle.

Qualley had been wanted on several outstanding warrants on charges of kidnapping, assault and theft. He was taken to the Douglas County Jail.

A second woman was also arrested shortly after police arrived.
