Camp Offers Hope To Cancer Survivors
DENVER (CBS4)- Sky High Hope Camp benefits from the Step Up For Cancer fundraising event. It's a camp for kids, that at first glance, looks like any summer camp.
At the Sky High Hope Camp, all the campers are cancer patients, survivors and their siblings.
"There is a cabin mate of mine who had the same cancer I did, we were both lucky to live through it, that's for sure," said cancer survivor Nathan Jaffrey.
The camp is staffed with volunteer doctors, like Dr. Reid Farris, who started coming to the camp with leukemia when he was a child.
"They know they don't have to be greeted as the kid with cancer. or the sibling of the kid with cancer," said Pediatrician Dr. Reid Farris.
"Not all the kids know I was a patient," said Farris. "Some do, it doesn't always come up in conversation. It isn't such that's all we talk about all week long is cancer."
Sky High Hope Camp is funded completely through donations.
CBS4 is a proud sponsor of this year's Step Up For Cancer event Sunday, Aug. 7 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
