Brush Fire Near I-25 & Ridgegate Parkway Contained
LONE TREE, Colo. (CBS4) - A brush fire that broke out along southbound Interstate 25 south of Ridgegate Parkway Sunday afternoon has been fully-contained.
The fire was started by downed power lines. Xcel Energy said the power lines were severed by a metal bar that keeps lines from slapping together. Xcel was on the scene and warned firefighters to stay a minimum of 20 feet away because of step potential.
The fire had grown to 100 acres by 5 p.m. but firefighters say they now have it contained.
"(There are) light to moderate fuels … light grasses to a little bit more heavier brush and such," Anthony Valdez with South Metro Fire Rescue said. "Obviously it's right on a ridge, so we have some rolling hills and a little bit of topography concerns with that."
A helicopter was on scene dropping water.
A nearby dog park had to be evacuated.
