Broncos Take 14-6 Lead On Bomb To Demaryius Thomas With :05 Left In Half
DETROIT (CBS4) - The Denver Broncos took a 14-6 lead over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit on a Peyton Manning 45-yard pass to Demaryius Thomas with :05 left in the half.
The Broncos appeared to be on the verge of scoring the first points of the game after a Bradley Roby interception close to the end of the first quarter but the Lions picked of Peyton Manning on the first play of the second quarter.
Ronnie Hillman took over as the main running back after C.J. Anderson was injured and went to the locker room to be evaluated at the end of the first quarter. After Anderson was cleared to play again running back Juwan Thompson had to leave the game with what appeared to be a neck injury. The very next play Ronnie Hillman took it in for a touchdown for the first score in the game.
But on the very next possession the Lions marched right down the field and scored a touchdown following an official review of a fumble, but the running back was ruled in the end zone. The Broncos blocked the extra point attempt by former Broncos kicker Matt Prater and the ball was nearly returned the length of the field by Chris Harris for two points, but he was tackled before he could reach the end zone.
Demaryius Thomas was called for taunting following his touchdown at the end of the half and there was some confusion as to if the penalty could be assessed on the extra point attempt, which it can't.
