Bill To Create Civil Unions Gains Support
DENVER (CBS4)- Religious leaders and organizations are supporting a bill to create civil unions in Colorado.
Several members of The Faithful Voices for Strong Families Coalition" were at the state Capitol on Thursday.
The group includes more than 130 religious leaders and 100 organizations in the group. They said non-traditional families deserve legal protection, too.
"We believe that family is best defined by love and commitment, not the gender of two loving people. And we believe that commitment shared by two people deserves the same legal rights, responsibilities and protections as other loving relationships," said Interfaith Alliance spokesman Jeremey Shaver.
The Senate Bill would give legal rights to same-sex partners. The bill would not define marriage, and would not require any faith-based organization to perform any service against its beliefs.
