Top Fiction Authors From The Denver Area
Rebecca Burgess
In her debut novel, A Better Life (Ophelia House), Rebecca Burgess paints the Wyoming and Colorado landscape eloquently into this conflict-laden plot. For someone who claims she's still not convinced she wants to be a writer (she says so on her self-written website bio), the Tattered Cover politely disagrees. In a review published on their Rocky Mountain Authors blog they say "Denver and Colorado should be proud to call Rebecca Burgess their own."
Dan Guenther
Glossy Black Cockatoos (Redburn Press), Dan Guenther's fourth novel, earned him the 2010 Colorado Author's League selection for Genre Fiction. Dan's background as an educator both in the United States and abroad certainly inspires this book, which brings the reader directly into conflict between Vietnam and Cambodia. Guenther also writes poetry, which he's published in his own book High Country Solitudes (Grand River) and which appeared in the anthology Turning Up the Leaves (Coe Review Press) and Open Range: Poetry of the Reimagined West (Ghost Road Press).
Kathleen Cunningham Guler
The Winner of the 2010 Colorado Book Award for Genre Fiction - Historical & Romance for her book, A Land Beyond Ravens: Book 4 of the Macsen's Treasure Series (Bardsong Press), Kathleen Cunningham Guler is no stranger to awards. She was the Finalist in the National Best Books 2009 Awards (sponsored by USA Book News), earned Second Place in Fiction in the 2010 "Evvy" Awards (sponsored by the Colorado Independent Publishers Association) and the Winner in the Historical Fiction category in the 2010 National Indie Excellence Awards. In her series of treasure books, Cunningham Guler puts the reader in 5th century Britain and gives them a unique look at the pursuit of power during medieval times.
Bill Thompson
Bill Thompson's latest book, The Bethlehem Scroll (Outskirts Press), has the pacing every thriller needs for success. You won't believe the number of places you'll go in this book, which was the first place choice for the 2010 Colorado Independent Publishers Association EVVY Award in fiction. Make your way from Dallas to New York to the French Riviera to Egypt in only 330 pages.
Mario Acevedo
The Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers' Association named sci-fi/horror author Mario Acevedo the 2009 Writer of the Year as a result of his zombie series of books (HarperCollins). Having just released the fifth book in the series, Jailbait Zombie, Acevedo shows no signs of slowing down. He also recently released a comic book titled Killing the Cobra, a spinoff from his novel The Nymphos of Rocky Flats.
