In her debut novel, A Better Life (Ophelia House), Rebecca Burgess paints the Wyoming and Colorado landscape eloquently into this conflict-laden plot. For someone who claims she's still not convinced she wants to be a writer (she says so on her self-written website bio), the Tattered Cover politely disagrees. Dan Guenther
Glossy Black Cockatoos (Redburn Press), Dan Guenther's fourth novel, earned him the 2010 Colorado Author's League selection for Genre Fiction. Dan's background as an educator both in the United States and abroad certainly inspires this book, which brings the reader directly into conflict between Vietnam and Cambodia. Guenther also writes poetry, which he's published in his own book High Country Solitudes (Grand River) and which appeared in the anthology Turning Up the Leaves (Coe Review Press) and Open Range: Poetry of the Reimagined West (Ghost Road Press).
