Bank Robbery Suspect Died After Shootout With Police
BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4)- A bank robbery suspect who got into a shootout with police only about a mile away from the crime scene, has died.
The bank robbery suspect has been identified as Philip Pfleghardt. Pfleghardt, 44, died at Good Samaritan Hospital on Sept. 11 from multiple gunshot wounds.
About 3:28 p.m. on Sept. 11, police in Broomfield responded to a bank robbery at the TCF Bank located at 4100 W. 144th Avenue. At least one gunshot was fired by the suspect, now identified as Pfleghardt.
He sped away from the bank in a white pickup truck. That truck was spotted by an officer on W. 144th Avenue, or Dillon Road, near Aspen Street, about 1½ miles west of the bank.
Witnesses told police that Pfleghardt brought the truck to an abrupt stop, got out and immediately fired his gun at an officer. That officer returned fire and struck the suspect. He was rushed to the hospital but died a short time later.
The 17th Judicial District's Critical Incident Investigation Team is conducting an investigation of the shooting. The officer has been placed on administrative leave as is standard in these types of officer-involved shootings.
