Alcohol Or Drugs Suspected In Deadly Santa Fe Crash
DENVER (CBS4) - Two people are dead and a 4-year-old is in the hospital after a head-on crash.
The accident happened Monday afternoon on Highway 85, south of Titan Road in Douglas County.
Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash.
Police said a Mercedes SUV driven by Connie Underwood, 56, of Castle Rock, went off the road at a curve and overcorrected, swerving into the northbound lanes and hitting a Jeep head on.
The driver of the Jeep, Claude Bounds, 69, of Castle Rock, died at Swedish Medical Center after being airlifted from the crash. The Jeep's front seat passenger, Carolyn Bounds, 64, of Castle Rock, died at Littleton Adventist Hospital shortly after the crash. A 4-year-old child in the Jeep suffered only minor injuries.
All occupants of the Jeep were wearing proper restraints.
Underwood was also hospitalized. Trooper H. Cobler form the State Patrol said investigators believe Underwood may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
