Authorities Say Child-Care Operator Found Dead

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a man caring for a child who died after an accident at a Windsor day care facility has been found dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez tells the Greeley Tribune that 35-year-old Garrett Moore was found dead Friday near the Pawnee Buttes Grasslands in northeastern Colorado.

Authorities say Moore was caring for 11-month-old Kalea Mummery under his mother's child-care license when she was found with her head trapped against the mesh siding of a playpen Monday. She was taken to the hospital and her family took her off life support Wednesday.

Day care operator 65-year-old Janette Moore, Moore's mother, surrendered her license.
