Aurora Woman Survives Getting Shot In The Head

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A young woman is lucky to be alive after being shot in the head. The bullet grazed her temple in what Aurora police are calling an attempted robbery.

The shooting happened at 10:30 p.m. Friday in an apartment complex at Aurora Parkway and Joplin, just east of Chambers.

Police say a man was waiting for her in the bushes outside of her apartment. When she arrived home he jumped out and shot her.

Police with K-9 units were  looking for the shooter. He got away right after the shooting. He's described as a tall, thin black man in his mid 20s who was wearing a gray sweatshirt, black shorts and a black beanie.

Some people living at the complex think he had been planning the shooting for awhile. It happened at building 15862. Kaelyn Brown lives on the second floor, right across from the woman who was shot. She's also her friend and was home last night when the robbery happened.

"We heard a lot of commotion last night, it was really loud. At first we just thought it was the neighbors because our doors close back and forth up here," Brown said. "You could hear him say to her to give him her stuff. The next thing you know we could hear someone crying."

Police say the woman and her friend had just pulled up and were walking toward the stairs when the  man jumped out of the bushes and demanded money. When the woman took a sudden step back she was shot in the head. The bullet just grazed her.

Neighbors say the man may have been scoping out the building and the people who live in the complex. They also say that police warned them that there have been several car break-ins in the area as well.

Aurora police hope to release a composite sketch of the shooter as soon as possible.
