Aurora Reservoir Swim Beach Temporarily Closed
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- A popular swim beach in the Denver metro area has been closed because of elevated bacteria levels.
The Aurora Reservoir swim beach was closed Wednesday after the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department said routine tests indicated elevated bacterial levels in the water.
The reservoir is an untreated body of water and it's not unusual for bacteria levels to fluctuate.
The elevated level is likely related to recent heavy rains experienced in the area.
The problem cures itself naturally but when the levels are elevated health officials said it's best not to swim.
Once the bacteria levels drop the swim beach will be re-opened.
The bacteria levels have not impacted Aurora Water's drinking water.
