Aurora Police Locate Family Of Toddler Found Outside Alone

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Aurora have found the family of a toddler found wandering outside alone on Friday morning.

At about 11:45 a.m. dispatch in Aurora received a call from a person who found a little boy outside alone in the 14200 block of East Kentucky Place.

Police found the child's family Friday evening. The child's grandmother was watching him at the time.

Police said she fell asleep and then when she woke up the child was gone. She was under the impression that another family member had the child and that's why she didn't call police.

"In the beginning we were hoping or believing that it was just a child who had walked away and the parent would shortly call us," Frank Fania with Aurora police said. "As time went on the police department started getting concerned."

Police said the boy's mother returned home just after police arrived and was beside herself.

"She was extremely upset. She was upset at grandma as well as upset because he boy still wasn't there," Fania said.

The boy remains in the custody of the Arapahoe County Department of Human Services.

The investigation is ongoing and police will determine whether charges will be filed once the investigation is complete.
