Aurora Police Investigate Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Aurora are investigating a shooting that left one man dead near Colfax and Macon.
The shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. at 1429 Macon. Neighbors said they heard gunshots.
Family members told CBS4 the victim is Richard Arreola, 25. He would have turned 26 on Valentine's Day.
Aurora police said narcotics officers were conducting surveillance at the address when the man, who was the focus of the investigation, approached one of the officers.
"He was armed, the officer indicated to other units, to other officers, that he was being approached by the male that was armed. He did indicate then that shots were fired and that the suspect had been shot," said Aurora Police spokeswoman Casidee Carlson.
Carlson said the suspect had two guns, a long gun and a revolver, when he approached officers. The man was pronounced dead on scene. Aurora police would not confirm the man's identity.
Aurora police could not confirm if the man lived at the home.
"I wish there was something we could do or say to maybe help out, but I'm pretty sure that words cannot console them right now. It is a tragedy, it's sad," said neighbor Hayden Mason.
