City Proposing Big Tax Hike On Cigarettes, Tobacco
ASPEN, Colo. (CBS4) - The city is considering a nearly $4 tax on a pack of cigarettes.
A ballot question for voters in November is being drafted.
If passed, it would also put a new 40 percent tax on chewing tobacco.
Aspen already passed an ordinance raising the age to buy tobacco products and e-cigarettes from 18 to 21-years-of-age.
That takes effect in 2018.
