Arrest Made In Police Impersonator Case

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Police arrested a suspect in a police impersonation case in Castle Rock.

William Lawler, 21, was booked into the El Paso County Jail. He has been charged with impersonating a police officer, unlawful sexual contact, false imprisonment, and audible/visual signals on a non-emergency vehicle.

Lawler is stationed at Ft. Carson Army Post. He is free on bail.

In Nov. 2010, a Castle Rock woman was pulled over by a tan Crown Victoria with flashing red and blue lights. The 37-year-old reported being sexually assaulted by the driver of the car, who claimed to be a police officer.

That incident happened around midday on Allen Street, near Home Depot and Sprouts.

Lawler's arrest follows two months of investigative work by the Castle Rock Police Department.

"Most folks quickly forget about these types of crimes soon after they happen," said Castle Rock Police Chief Tony Lane. "We don't. And, this is the result."
