Anti-Tax Activist To Run For Springs City Council
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Anti-tax activist and government gadfly Douglas Bruce says he's going to run for the Colorado Springs City Council because he wants to reverse such actions as a planned water pipeline and an agreement with the U.S. Olympics Committee.
The Gazette reports that Bruce announced his plan Wednesday to run in the April municipal election. Bruce is urging other fiscal conservatives to run to form a majority on the council.
Bruce is the author of the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, a constitutional amendment that limits how much money state and local governments can raise and spend.
The 61-year-old Bruce says he opposes plans for a 62-mile , billion-dollar-plus water pipeline. He also opposes the city's agreement with the USOC providing incentives for the organization to build a new headquarters downtown.
