'American Gladiator' Officer Resigns During Steroid Investigation
DENVER (CBS4) - CBS4 has learned that Denver Police Officer Abbegayle Dorn, who gained fame through her appearance on the television show "American Gladiators," resigned from the department Tuesday.
"Officer Dorn did resign," said DPD spokesperson Sonny Jackson, confirming the CBS4 report.
In May, CBS4 reported that Dorn was the focus of an internal Denver police investigation stemming from accusations she allegedly procured and used steroids.
An attorney who has represented Dorn was contacted but was unable to provide any immediate comment Tuesday evening. Dorn did not immediately respond to an electronic message sent by CBS4.
Three law enforcement sources familiar with the case say it began when the FBI investigated Dorn's possible connections to steroid purchases more than a year ago, but no criminal case was ever filed. However the Denver Police Department apparently continued the federal steroid investigation.
Dorn spent time as a professional fitness model and bodybuilder. She appeared on the "American Gladiators" reality TV show in 2008, along with a second female Denver police officer.
DPD spokesman Jackson said Dorn's resignation likely puts an end to the internal affairs investigation.
