Adultery Crime Closer To Repeal In Colorado
DENVER (AP) - Colorado is a step closer to repealing an unenforced state law making adultery a crime.
The state Senate gave preliminary approval Friday to a bill repealing the adultery statute. The bill also repeals another law making it illegal to provide a place for unmarried sex, a holdover from Colorado's frontier days.
Sponsors point out that adultery statute carries no criminal penalty. They call both statutes outdated, unused and possibly even unconstitutional because both hinge on a person's marital status.
The Senate approved the bill over the objections of one Republican who feared the crime of providing a place for unmarried sex could affect modern-day prostitution and human trafficking cases. The bill faces one more vote before going to the House.
