42nd Street Keeps Audiences Tapping In The Aisles
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- A classic story of two show biz cliches is back on stage in Denver with a new production of "42nd Street" at Boulder's Dinner Theatre.
42nd Street is based on the 1933 Ruby Keeler movie of the same name. It has great music and every show biz cliche in the book.
The plot follows a young girl with 40 cents to her name as she takes her chances on Broadway. The lead takes a tumble and the kid takes the role and a star is born.
Even though the plot seemed pretty common in the 1930s, the idea seems fresh now, especially the way it is presented in the two-time Tony Award winning package.
Boulder's Dinner Theater ensemble handles the production with exceptional dance moves and great music. The cast also hits the high points of comedy.
CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody said there are good performances from John Scott Clough as the cynical director, Ali Dunfee as the fading star and Katie Ulrich as the small-time girl with Broadway dreams in her eyes.
He said it's a good time for anyone who enjoys great tap dancing.
42nd Street runs through Feb. 16, 2013 at Boulder's Dinner Theatre, 55th and Arapahoe, 303-449-6000.
