3 Separate Law Enforcement Vehicles Struck In 3 Days
SILVER PLUME, Colo. (CBS4) - A Colorado State Patrol trooper's cruiser was struck on Interstate 70 near Silver Plume during Monday morning's rush hour.
The trooper wasn't seriously injured.
"He is doing fine but this is a reminder of a disturbing trend," the State Patrol said in a Facebook post. "Drivers consistently are traveling too fast for conditions and following too close in order to maintain control on all weather surfaces."
Two other law enforcement vehicles were struck on Saturday. The first occurred just after 7 p.m. when a Jefferson County sheriff's deputy vehicle was struck by a Dodge Durango on Highway 285 just north of Conifer.
"The deputy was transported to an area hospital for unknown injuries," the State Patrol said in a statement.
The driver of the Durango wasn't injured but two passengers were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
In the second incident a state trooper was also on Highway 285 just north of Fairplay at investigating a single-car crash 7:38 a.m. when a northbound Kia lost control and hit the trooper's cruiser head on.
"The trooper was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries," the State Patrol said.
The driver of the Kia wasn't injured but one passenger was transported to the hospital for possible injuries.
