25 Train Cars Carrying Coal Derail, Crash Into Feed Building
LUCERNE, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators in Weld County are working to determine why a Union Pacific train carrying coal derailed overnight, crashing into a feed building.
Authorities said approximately 25 of the train's cars derailed at 11 p.m. Wednesday and some cargo spilled.
The train crashed into three different parts of the Northern Feed & Bean building.
The cars have been removed but the coal still remains inside.
No one was hurt in the incident.
The derailment happened near the intersection of Highway 85 and Highway 392, north of Greeley. Roads were closed around the scene while the investigation was taking place.
The train was traveling from Wyoming and was headed to the Colorado Springs area.
The extent of the damage to the feed building was being evaluated.
Investigators from Union Pacific told CBS4 they will be looking into conditions of the track and the topography of the land to determine if either of those played a factor in the derailment.
Trains are being rerouted around the derailment.
