2 Drown, 1 Safe In Loveland Boat Accident
LOVELAND, Colo. (AP/CBS4) -- Two people are dead and another is safe after three people were pulled from a Loveland pond after witnesses reported hearing screams Thursday night.
The Larimer County Coroner said Friday two people drowned in a boating accident. A third person was later found safe and brought to shore by a boat.
A 69-year-old male, identified as Myron Gilliand and his 37-year-old son, Rickie Pickett, both of LaSalle, Colorado, were pulled from the water by Loveland Dive Rescue and transported to the hospital. Both men were later pronounced dead.
A boy, 10 to 13 years of age, was rescued from an island in the pond. He was treated on scene by medical personnel and was subsequently transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
Initial reports indicate that the three were fishing when their boat overturned. Larimer County Sheriff's Office investigators are continuing to investigate the incident.
The Loveland and Berthoud fire departments sent dive rescue teams to the pond about 9:30 p.m. after receiving a report of missing persons. A 911 caller reported hearing a child screaming for help.
