1 Dead, Several Hurt, In Crash In Southwest Metro Area

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A truck hit a car on eastbound Belleview early Friday morning, killing the driver.

The crash happened at about 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Belleview and Kipling, and officials closed Belleview's eastbound lanes for several hours.

Officials with the Colorado State Patrol said a Ford pickup truck traveling eastbound on Belleview collided with a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta traveling north on Kline Street, one block west of Kipling. Troopers told CBS4 the collision caused the Jetta to skid east on Belleview and crash into a tree.

The male driver of the Jetta, Aaron Thane, 18, of Littleton, was pronounced dead at Swedish Hospital. There were two other passengers in that vehicle, Robert Thane, 19, of Littleton and Branden Hanson, 22, of Lakewood, who were also taken to Swedish Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not being released.

The driver of the Ford, Kenneth Farrell, 35 of Littleton, was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was released a few hours later.

An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the crash. Speed and alcohol are being investigated as possible contributing factors. No charges have been filed.
