1 Dead, 5 Injured In Crash In Aurora
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Five people were injured and one person died in auto collision in Aurora Monday night.
Lt. Charles DeShazer with Aurora police said just after 9 p.m. officers and fire rescue units responded to northbound Chambers Road at Interstate 70 on an auto collision involving serious injuries.
"Upon arrival, fire personnel began treating six people and transported them to several local hospitals," DeShazer said in a statement. "Despite the best efforts from medical staff, one person later succumbed to the injuries sustained during the collision."
DeShazer said the investigation revealed a green Mitsubishi 3000 going northbound on Chambers struck a black Audi that was initially believed to have been turning onto northbound Chambers from the eastbound I-70 off ramp.
"Officers later determined the Audi had been southbound on Chambers attempting to make a turn to the eastbound I-70 on ramp," DeShazer said.
He said the Mitsubishi impacted the passenger door of the Audi.
Officers are investigating to see if speed, alcohol, drugs or distracted driving contributed to the crash.
North Chambers Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the accident was investigated.
The name of the victim has not been released.
