IRVING (CBS11) - Students haven't returned to class yet but already some high school football players could face serious trouble before they even take the field.  They're being investigated by Irving Police and Irving ISD for package theft.

An Irving homeowner who doesn't want her face or name revealed because her daughter attends MacArthur High School, says a group of football players from the school were at her front door on Saturday afternoon wearing red jerseys and selling coupon books to raise money for the team.

"They were selling ticket vouchers which you can redeem at the Jack-in-the-Box or what have you," said the homeowner.

She told CBS11 she didn't answer the door but was watching.

"I have a habit of just peeping through the hole and not answering the door," she said. "I saw three of them who kept going back-and-forth looking at my mailbox coming to the door and not saying anything."

The homeowner decided to step outside and found her mailbox open and the group of young people running down the street dropping her mail and carrying a package.

"I'm driving around and I see lots of my mail all over the place," she said.

She filed a police report and the school district was contacted.

A statement from Irving ISD reads:

"Football coach is aware and is investigating. He has been in contact with the homeowner. If the allegations are true, we will take the appropriate actions."

But the homeowner said she doesn't expect the school district to take it seriously.

"Today is Monday and I have yet to have anybody come to my door to say 'I'm sorry'," said the homeowner.
