IRVING (CBSDFW) - An Irving Police officer suffered minor injuries early Monday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while working a traffic stop.

Officials say the unidentified officer was hit by a vehicle while investigating a traffic accident on State Highway 114 near Walnut Hill Lane.

The officer was transported to a local hospital to be checked out, but was not seriously hurt.

No word if the driver who struck him will be charged.

Irving Police says the incident underscores the importance of driving to the conditions and moving over when approaching an emergency vehicle stopped on the highway.

State law requires drivers to vacate the lane closest to the stopped emergency vehicle or slow to at least 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit.
