Allen police identify family of 4 slain in murder-suicide
ALLEN (CBSNewsTexas.com) — The Allen Police Department has identified the family slain in Monday's murder-suicide, but have yet to say who the shooter was.
They are Farman and Layla Sherwani and their two sons, 12-year-old Shaheen and 2-year-old Mateen. The department also shared that the couple had another child, 4-year-old Lyian who drowned three weeks ago.
Officers discovered the family around 8:45 a.m. Aug. 28 while doing a welfare check at their home on Aberdeen Drive, not far from Exchange Parkway. A member of the family called police after they were locked out of their home for a couple of hours and couldn't get inside or get ahold of their relatives.
Allen ISD confirmed Shaheen was a fifth grader at Olson Elementary School. The school is a few blocks away from the home.
District officials sent a message to parents, which read in part:
We are all shocked and saddened by this news. I ask that you please keep the family and loved ones in your thoughts over the coming days and months.
Neighbors told CBS News Texas they watched grief-stricken family members in complete disbelief...their screams disrupting the quiet morning.
"It's tragic, it's overwhelming when you think about it," shared neighbor Jacqueline Soto. "It was heartbreaking to watch the family mourn. Their reaction was disbelief and sadness."
