2 Dead After Wrong-Way Crash Along Highway 183 In Irving

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - Two drivers are dead after a wrong-way crash on Highway 183 in Irving early Monday morning.

The crash happened just before 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway near Belt Line Road.

Police say the driver of an SUV with California license plates was heading east in the westbound lanes of 183. The SUV hit a Corvette head on.

The man driving the Corvette was killed, and a male passenger in his car was taken to Parkland Hospital.  Police say the passenger had serious injuries, including two broken legs.

The driver of the SUV also died. The identities of the two drivers have not yet been released.

Officers received 911 calls about the wrong-way driver and attempted to catch up and stop the car, but the crash happened before they could reach him.

The westbound lanes of 183 were closed for more than five hours as police investigated.
