IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A high school student in the Irving Independent School District has been killed and another student arrested and charged with murder.

Officials with the district say Racheal Jean Wiest, a Nimitz High School student, passed away early Tuesday morning.

According to police, officers were called to a house in the 300 block of East 6th Street on May 25. During an afternoon press conference Officer James McLellan, with the Irving Police Department, said, "The call was very limited, but they said that there was an unconscious 16-year-old female that had been found there and she was not responsive. They did not know if she had taken some type of drugs or what was the cause of her unconsciousness."

Police say Wiest's estranged boyfriend, Jacob Lee Boyd, was at the house when officers arrived. Detectives say that 17-year-old Boyd and the victim had apparently met at a friend's house to discuss their relationship. The couple had apparently been involved in a relationship for about a year, but had recently broken up.

It is believed Wiest tried to leave the house when the teenagers began to argue. McLellan explained that, "He [Boyd], during the initial phase of the investigation was asked by the responding officers what had happened he made a statement to them that he had choked her [Wiest] during an argument."

The homeowner was performing CPR and instructed her son, a friend of Boyd's, to call 911.

Initially Weist, 16, was taken to Baylor Medical Center Irving and was then transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where she later died.

Irving Superintendent Jose Parra also addressed the media during the press conference. He said, "It's with a troubled heart that I stand before you today. Around seven o'clock this morning we learned that a Nimitz High School sophomore passed away sometime after midnight. That news in itself is devastating and almost unbearable for a school community to experience. Even more devastating is that her death may have been the result of an interaction that occurred at a residence on Monday evening with a fellow student, a junior from Nimitz High School."

Parra said crisis counselors have been at Nimitz High School all day. "We are committed to having the counselors and extra support there at the campus for as long as the students and staff need it. The last day of school may be only seven days way but we will be here for our students, and continue to be here, long after that."

Jacob Boyd has been charged with Murder and is being held in the Irving City Jail. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon. No bond has been set.
