Police Officer Arrested, Allegedly Solicited Arson Of His Own Vehicle

WILMINGTON, De. (CBS) -- Wilmington Police have announced the arrest of one of their own. Detective Ahmard Reddick was arrested on Thursday in connection to an alleged arson attempt.

Police say that Reddick, an 8-year-veteran of the Wilmington Police Department, was arrested and charged in connection to the attempted arson of his own vehicle.

Authorities say that on August 2, Reddick reported the attempted arson of his vehicle on the 3100 block of Lancaster Avenue. It was believed that a suspect, or multiple suspects, poured gas into the vehicle and set it on fire. Officials connected the incident to an ongoing investigation involving street gangs.

Police determined a suspect, who claimed that Reddick solicited him to commit the arson.

Reddick was charged with 2nd degree arson, 2nd degree conspiracy, 2nd degree criminal solicitation and providing a false statement to law enforcement to hinder or delay the investigation of a felony.

The department has placed Reddick on administrative leave pending a suspension hearing.
