Damage estimated at $1M after McDonald's catches fire in Wilmington, Del.
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) --The Delaware State Fire Marshal determined the cause of a Thursday morning fire at a McDonald's in Wilmington. Part of the roof caved in after the fast food restaurant caught fire.
Officials said the fire started in a heating unit on the roof of the building due to an unknown electrical/mechanical malfunction in the unit. They also said there were no sprinklers in the building at the McDonald's on Concord Pike in Wilmington.
New Castle County Paramedics said they were on the scene just after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Video from Chopper 3 caught flames and smoke rising from the back of the restaurant. A portion of the roof in the front of the building appeared to have collapsed.
A woman was treated for chest pain at the scene by New Castle County paramedics. She was then taken to Christiana Care Hospital in Wilmington in a Talleyville Fire Company ambulance. Paramedics also evaluated another man, who declined transport to the hospital. Authorities reported no other injuries in the incident.
The state marshal said the estimated damage of the fire is $1 million.
