Weather: Arctic Front Will Send Temperatures Crashing Across The Region Thursday
By Steven Strouss
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After a mild day with temps in the 40s, an arctic front will send temperatures crashing across the region tomorrow. Scattered snow showers are possible Thursday morning, mainly north and west of Philadelphia, but will bring no more than a coating to 1". Highest amounts will be in the Poconos and although this is a weak system, it may still be enough to produce slick spots during the morning commute so use caution and allow extra time to get to your destination.
Skies will begin to clear Thursday afternoon, but the cold rushes back in with a gusty northwest wind. Thursday night will be frigid with lows in the teens and wind chills Friday morning will be in the single digits. Saturday will be better with a high near 40 but clouds roll in ahead of our next storm which arrives on Sunday. Sunday is a tough call right now. It looks like a lousy day, with some light rain, sleet and snow. We are monitoring the track of the next cold front which will push south later in the weekend to provide this mess. As it does, an area of low pressure will develop along the front and bring a period of enhanced precipitation to region. The big questions are how much cold air is in place and how long does the precipitation stick around before it gets pushed out to sea. Some computer models have it lingering until Tuesday which would add to snow amounts especially north of the city. We are not ready to make snow predictions just yet but we will fine tune the forecast and bring you updated information as it becomes available.
