Officials Warning Residents Of Possible Coyote Sightings In Whitpain Township, Pa.

By Kristen Johanson

WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Officials in Montgomery County are warning residents of a possible coyote in the area.

Whitpain Township police say that although the animals are not normally aggressive toward people, they have been known to attack and feed on smaller animals, including househould pets.  So, they warn, don't feed your pets outdoors.

Coyotes are normally nocturnal, but at this time of year females have just given birth to pups, and are out hunting around the clock.
Officials say if you come in contact with a coyote, back away and walk in another direction, then call police.
