Villanova University Adding Snow Make-Up Days on Sundays -- Or Online
By Justin Udo
VILLANOVA, Pa. (CBS) -- Canceled classes, half days, and two-hour delays seem to be the norm for students this winter. And for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade, it's a given that they are going to have to make up some of those days.
But there is now at least one area college that is also adding some makeup days to its academic calendar.
Villanova University has already canceled school seven times this semester due to the weather. University spokesman Jonathan Gust says they are now looking at ways to make up those missed classes.
"There were limited options," Gust tells KYW Newsradio. "What they chose to do is provide flexibility to the faculty: they can make up classes on Sundays, and the classes would have to be at the student's regularly scheduled class times, or they could offer to have students make up class work through online technology."
Gust says students and professors have been very understanding about this situation.
"This is something that's really important to them. There's an amount of coursework that faculty are trying to cover in a given semester. No one wants to try to fit that work into a smaller time frame."
Gust says that while formulating this makeup schedule they tried not to tamper with spring break because a lot of their students have service trips they are volunteering for.
