Video shows car going up in flames after fatal crash in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A vehicle went up in flames after a car crash in North Philadelphia left two people dead early Tuesday morning.

According to Philadelphia police, the two-car crash happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of West Hunting Park Avenue and North Broad Street.

Aqueelah Cutno and her father are still shaken up after their home surveillance camera captured the deadly crash early Tuesday morning.

"It was horrible. Traumatic," Cutno said. "I was crying. The neighbor was crying."

Surveillance video shows a sedan veering into the wrong lane on the left side of the screen and then colliding with a Toyota RAV4. Almost instantly the sedan burst into flames.

Neighbors watch as first responders rush to the scene to put out the large fire in the middle of the street.

"The fire was huge," Cutno said. "When I say huge, I mean huge, huge and it took a minute for them to take it out."

Police said the driver of the sedan hit the RAV4 head-on, ejecting the 46-year-old driver. The two drivers died at the scene and both cars were destroyed.

"I just think it happened like that," Cutno said.

Witnesses said once the fire was put out, first responders eventually pulled the driver out of the burnt sedan.

Officials haven't confirmed whether speeding, racing, or alcohol was involved.

"I hope that it wasn't anyone drinking or anybody doing anything crazy," Cutno said. "Both families are in my prayers."

Police have not released the names of the drivers as the crash remains an ongoing investigation.
