New USS New Jersey Will Be Christened By Navy Saturday
Newport News, Va. (CBS) -- On Saturday morning, the Navy will christen a new submarine, the future USS New Jersey. The submarine is the third naval vessel to carry the name of the Garden State.
The last ship, the battleship New Jersey, is now in a museum in Camden.
Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia started construction of the fast-attack sub in March 2016 and is about 80 percent complete.
The USS New Jersey is set to be delivered to the Navy sometime next year.
