Understanding Employee Goals Is Crucial For Philadelphia CEO

Rajiv Shenoy is the chief executive officer of OrcaTV, a channel for students and faculty of on-air informative flyers, social media and videos that help communicate within the college campus community. OrcaTV embraces many forms of communication, making the experience accessible, fun and interactive.

Files and formats are submitted through a custom OrcaTV interactive submission portal. Files can then be easily shared through social media. It's a new innovative way to keep communication on events and news around campus open.

What is your educational background?

"I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and my Master of Science in Environmental Engineer Planning & Management from Johns Hopkins University, where I first launched OrcaTV's Campus Life Channel."

What is your background in management?

"I've been very fortunate to have incredible advisors and investors who have helped me become a young, effective manager. Being an entrepreneur, I learned most of my management skills from practicing and learning as I go. It's been an incredible experience working with my team to deliver a relevant and engaging digital media platform for students while reducing the management responsibilities for administrators at colleges and universities."

How has your education fueled your management success?

"Engineering taught me the fundamentals of problem-solving. Very few tasks daunt me now. Engineering, math, and science gave me a foundation for understanding how to problem solve. Our entire team has the mentality of problem solvers, which is why I think our platform has been so engaging to students."

What advice would you give someone just starting out in your field?

"It's about people and relationships. Understanding your people's goals and helping them achieve them within your company's mission is critical. Everyone wants an experience that is fulfilling; and if you can deliver that, it's a fun work experience for everyone!"
