Two Philadelphia Companies Fined For Minimum Wage Violations
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two Philadelphia companies have agreed to pay back wages and damages to hundreds of temporary workers.
The two companies Stanley Creations and Asendia have agreed to pay more than $760,000 to minimum wages workers who were not paid the correct amount, according to Jim Cain, District Director for the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division in Philadelphia. He says this is part of an ongoing effort to protect vulnerable men and women.
"One of the reasons we're focusing on the temporary help industry is because we have found that it is an industry with a lot of violations," Cain said. "We've been in our fourth year of focusing on this, and to date we have found approximately $3.6 million in back wages and liquidated damages to 843 employees.
Cain says the money collected is given back to the workers.
