Toy Drive Benefits Kids With Parents In Prison

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Eastern State Penitentiary, a historic site in Fairmount, has programming focusing on the contemporary prison system.

For the holiday season, the abandoned prison is holding a toy drive to benefit children who have parents incarcerated, so they don't feel alone for the holidays.

Eastern State Penitentiary has partnered with Philadelphia FIGHT's Institute for Community Justice, which is a comprehensive re-entry into society center.

A toy and book drive is being held during tour hours at Eastern State, and kids with parents incarcerated or recently released from prison, will benefit

Kevin Christmas, a former inmate says,"For the guys incarcerated it's just like, at least you know that your child is receiving some kind of gift or love during this time, even the ones that really don't celebrate the holidays, it's just a feeling of being home and around your children or family during this holiday time."

Unwrapped toys and books can be dropped off at Eastern State Penitentiary.

Two for the price of one tour admission tickets are being offered as a thank you.
