4 tornadoes occurred in New Jersey: National Weather Service
CINNAMINSON, N.J. (CBS) -- At least four tornadoes occurred in New Jersey in relation to the severe thunderstorms that moved through the Philadelphia region Saturday night, the National Weather Service says.
One of the tornadoes happened near Cinnaminson, Burlington County. The NWS is currently conducting a storm survey for the area in Cinnaminson Sunday.
More details about the tornado, including the path, length and width will be available Sunday night, the NWS says. The other tornadoes happened in Jackson, Ocean County and Howell Township and Sea Grit, which are both in Monmouth County.
From snapped tree trunks to wrecked fences, people in Burlington County are thankful Saturday's strong winds did not cause any injuries, just damaged property.
"It really rapidly switched to high winds, and we saw things blowing around on our back deck," Uros Koprivica, a Burlington County resident, said.
"It's always scary because weather is unpredictable and you're not in control," Laurie Quinn, a Cinnaminson resident, said.
Crews were out on Sunday assessing damage and restoring power while residents started cleanup efforts.
"It looks horrendous," Michelle Koprivica, another Burlington County resident, said. "I mean, the tree is uprooted, there are PSE&G trucks all around."
Quinn and her family watched as a massive tree uprooted and landed on top of power line, knocking out electricity for the block.
"It just crashes over, takes some power lines with it. We saw a small fire start," Quinn said.
When storms like this hit, Dave Fuegel and the workers at his landscaping company are usually the ones cleaning up damage for other homeowners, but this time the wreckage was in his own backyard.
"It hit home for sure," Fuegel, of Steve's Lawn & Tree Service, said. "Thank God for neighbors and everybody pitching in and helping."
"Everyone's OK and that's what matters," Quinn said.
Even in the midst of the destruction, residents are holding on to what's left.
The severe weather also brought a tornado to Bridgeville, Delaware, and left one person dead.
At least 29 people were killed in weather-related deaths, according to numbers compiled by CBS News, as tornadoes hit the South, Midwest and Northeastern parts of the United States.
