The Snow Isn't Ready To Leave Just Yet
By Kate Bilo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--By the time Monday rolls around, we may be even more tired of seeing snow than we are already, if that's at all possible! A few little bursts of snow this weekend won't amount to much, but you may look out the window at any time and see the white flakes falling from the sky.
A large coastal system will just miss us to the south, but a wave riding across the northeast could draw some moisture from that and spark a round of snow showers later on Saturday for the area. That coastal low heads out to sea, but another disturbance will move in on Sunday, and once again bring a round of light snow or snow showers.
Even in the short range, there are some discrepancies in the major models for Sunday and Monday. The GFS is more robust with the Sunday snow, bringing an inch or two to the area, but then keeps Monday quiet, while the Euro brings nothing more than scattered snow showers Sunday and holds the energy back for Monday, when a southern sneaker creeps by bringing another chance for snow.
Again, none of these bursts produce much, but the timing is still to be determined. A general 1-3" by Monday is what it looks like, with some spots not seeing much beyond a dusting, and other spots with a few fresh inches.
We get one quiet day next Tuesday (but it's COLD) before another potential storm impacts the area next week. There is no concrete picture of this storm emerging yet, but keep an eye on the period from Wednesday night to Friday morning for some snow or rain. We'll keep you posted as we get clearer information on the timing and intensity of the pre-Valentine's Day system.
