The Philadelphia Orchestra's Valentine's Day Concert
By R.J. McKay
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Jeremy Rothman, the vice president of artistic planning for the Philadelphia Orchestra, shared an overview of the Valentine's Day concert on Saturday, Feb. 14th.
"It's a great evening to come out to hear the Orchestra and bring somebody special with you. What better subject matter on Valentine's than Shakespeare and love, Shakespeare and romance, which is going to be very much the focus of the musical works along with actors from the Shakespeare Theater from Philadelphia," Rothman says.
And there are some specific pieces that will be performed.
"Tchaikovsky's 'Romeo and Juliet,' that beloved tome poem, and it's Mendelssohn's incidental music to 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' Berlioz being inspired by 'Much Ado About Nothing' with his overture to Beatrice and Benedict, and William Walton's film score from 'As You Like It.'"
