The Pa. Ballet Performs 'The Nutcracker'

By R.J. McKay

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Pa. Ballet will be performing the holiday classic, "The Nutcracker, this year starting Saturday, December 6th and running through New Year's Eve.

Ballet Master Zachary Hensh shared some information on this year's performances.

"So this year, you can expect to see a little different than what we've been doing in the past years and closer to the original version that Balanchine choreographed. Also this year, we have a lot of new dancers doing new roles that we haven't seen in the past, because we have a new director with a new vision and fresh eyes," Hensh says.

And there's a lot of pressure performing "The Nutcracker" as choreographed by Balanchine.

"Yes, you feel more pressure because you have to stay true to his choreography. On the flipside of that, it's also a lot of pressure to have carte blanche and have to come up with something new all the time," Hensh explains.
