The Kimmel Center Presents 'Pippin'

By RJ McKay

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Kimmel Center presents "Pippin" February 23 through the 28th at The Academy of Music.

Frances Egler, director Broadway Philadelphia programming, talks about the production coming to Philadelphia.

"The production that will be here is a recent Tony award winning revival that played on Broadway. It's from the composer and creator of "Wicked," Stephen Schwartz, and originally ran on Broadway in the 1970s starring Ben Vereen, and it was a huge hit with Bob Fosse directing and choreographing."

Frances points out the difference in this presentation compared to the original.

"It has all of the elements of it, I mean it's "Pippin," they haven't changed the book, they haven't changed the music. It's a reinvention of the production and it's really clever and imaginative. It just fits the score and the story so well because it's a traveling group of players as a circus would be."
